As we eagerly await the return of college football action, let’s go on a journey through the must-watch matchups and where the high-stakes storylines are in the first two weeks of college football. I can’t wait to experience the thrill and emotion that only college football can provide us with the start of the 2024 college football season. From epic rivalries, conference clashes, holiday matchups, and huge playoff implications all over we have you covered with all of the games to watch in weeks 1 and 2 right here.

50 Games To Watch in Week 1 and Week 2

Florida State vs Georgia Tech (Saturday 08/24, 12:00 PM EST on ESPN)

Florida State will take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets as our premier “Week 0” matchup this year. After a tough break to end the year, Mike Norvell has been working hard to revamp the roster and has several new playmakers looking to make an immediate impact behind DJ Uiagalelei. After a surprising 7-5 season, Brent Key and the Yellow Jackets will look to rely on the dual-threat abilities of Haynes King to lead another high powered offense in 2024. The ACC touchdown leader from 2023 was also the ACC turnover leader in 2023 so we will see if the decision making has improved.

UNC @ Minnesota (Thursday 08/29, 8:00 PM EST on Fox)

The North Carolina Tar Heels finished last year with a 8-4 record and the Drake Maye era is over. Mack Brown has been busy addressing some player development issues and for once we might see a UNC defense that’s better than the offense. PJ Fleck and the Golden Gophers should be the same old team we’re used to seeing… run the ball like they’re a service academy and lean on a bolstered front seven to keep them in games.

North Dakota State @ Colorado (Thursday 08/29, 8:00 PM EST on ESPN)

Colorado is gearing up for a intriguing season and that’s the nicest way I can say it. Deion Sanders has added some nice pieces including wide receiver Will Sheppard but they start off with a really tough test against a perennial FCS powerhouse. North Dakota State will be under the new leadership of Tim Polasek after Matt Entz accepted a job at USC last offseason.

Coastal Carolina @ Jacksonville State (Thursday 08/29, 8:00 PM EST on CBS Sports Network)

Tim Beck and the Chanticleers are heading into a tough road environment coming off of a successful 8-5 season. For the first time in a long time we won’t be seeing Grayson McCall leading the team as former Michigan State QB Noah Kim will battle Ethan Vasko for the starting job. Jax State is coming off a stellar first year run in the FBS and Rich Rodriguez should have the offense more efficient. The devoted fanbase gained a ton of confidence after watching a stellar defense last year with Zac Alley calling the plays. With Alley reuniting with Brent Venables at Oklahoma, we will find out if Luke Olson can keep the momentum going.

FAU @ Michigan State (Friday 08/30, 7:00 PM EST on BTN)

FAU is looking to improve after a 4-8 year one from Tom Herman. They have a lot of questions, including who will take the snaps at QB but the defense will return some veterans. Michigan State is doing everything they can just to forget 2023 as the Jonathan Smith era gets started. Smith is bringing a style of football back to East Lansing hasn’t seen in some time now and with much of his coaching staff coming with him this will be the first chance for them to show off everything they’ve been working on on a national stage. The Spartan faithful are hungry to return to bowl eligibility and can’t see the team have a slip up here.

TCU @ Stanford (Friday 08/30, 10:30 PM EST on ESPN)

TCU enters 2024 with a chip on their shoulder after a very disappointing 2023. The offense is still loaded for Sonny Dykes and they’ve made a good hire to get the defense back on track with Andy Avalos. This team has potential but we’ll see if Josh Hoover can handle the load and if they can solidify the defense. A historic ACC power, Stanford is looking to get back on track as well. The offense needs work, the defense needs work, and Troy Taylor is doing everything he can to help establish themselves as a formidable opponent in their new conference but they still have a way to go.

Fresno State @ Michigan (Saturday 08/31, 7:30 PM EST on NBC)

Fresno State is returning a high flying offense with Mikey Keane, Malik Sherrod, and an experienced receiving corps back in 2024. Unfortunately, they’re running into the defending national champs week 1. Michigan will still be strong with the defense remaining elite but we will have to see how the new faces on offense handle their new situations.

Clemson vs UGA in Mercedes Benz Stadium (Saturday 08/31, 12:00 PM EST on ABC)

2023 was a wake-up call for Clemson after a 8-5 season. It marked the first time in a decade that Dabo Swinney and the Tigers didn’t surpass the ten win mark. Offense still has major questions with Cade Klubnik but Phil Mafah is poised for a major breakout season as the premier back. The defense is still going to be stellar, especially up front. UGA returns a strong core of players on offense and defense. Carson Beck is the Heisman favorite as of today, Mykell Williams will be a first round pick on defense. Georgia lost some historic players this off-season but Kirby Smart has revamped through the portal and the young blue chips should get their chance to shine as well.

Penn State @ West Virginia (Saturday 08/31, 12:00 PM EST on FOX)

Despite high expectations, James Franklin and the Nittany Lions finished 2023 with a 10-3 record and failed to make the playoff again. With an easier path to the playoff, can Drew Allar develop under Andy Kotelnicki and a strong defensive core with inexperienced DBs keep up the same defensive intensity without Manny Diaz? Neal Brown saved his job in Morgantown after a surprising 9-4 season. The Mountaineers are returning a strong core on offense from their 2023 run, the defense is returning some key starters, and they’ve added through the portal as well. WVU is gearing up for a run in 2024 and Penn State has a tough road test to begin their own run at their first College Football Playoff bid.

South Dakota State @ Oklahoma State (Saturday 08/31, 2:00 PM EST on Big 12)

A strong 10-4 finish after early struggles Oklahoma State had a successful season. Some highs included the emergence of Ollie Gordon and winning the last Bedlam for the foreseeable future. The 2024 Cowboys return a lot of firepower on offense, including Gordon and Brennan Presley but need Alan Bowman to take a step forward at quarterback. The defense returns almost all starters but they will need to take a step forward as well. It won’t be an easy start in Stillwater as the reigning FCS champions come in to town. South Dakota State comes off another dominant season, going 15-0 and extending their unbeaten streak to 29 games. The Jackrabbits return reigning Walter Payton Award winner, Mark Gronowski, but a revamped offensive line and group of playmakers makes this road test a hard one to pull out.

Miami @ Florida (Saturday 08/31, 3:30 PM EST on ABC)

Miami started hot in 2023, including a win over Texas A&M but mid-season sputters caused the Canes to go 6-7 and miss a major bowl game. Mario Cristobal has revamped the offense with Cam Ward and Damien Martinez, the defense will be strong up front and the real questions will come in the secondary. A strong season could finally mean “The U” is back but they start off 2024 with a heated rivalry. Florida also had some bright moments early, like a win over Tennessee but they fumbled away a couple of losses and overall had a disappointing season, finishing 5-7. The Gators should have some offensive firepower with Graham Mertz heading the crew but the biggest questions still pertain to the defense. In a do-or-die season for Billy Napier it will be sink-or-swim very early on and we should be able to tell week 1 which is just the start of their very tough gauntlet of a schedule.

Kennesaw State @ UTSA (Saturday 08/31, 3:30 on ESPN+)

Hooty Hoo!!!!!!! Kennesaw State is making their step-up to the FBS level and start off with a tough matchup in San Antonio. UTSA is coming off their best season ever but is looking to replace some program departures in Frank Harris, Trey Moore, and Rashad Wisdom. We’ll see if the Owls will be able to adjust to higher levels of competition quickly.

Miami (OH) @ Northwestern (Saturday 8/31, 3:30 PM EST on BTN)

2023 was a roller coaster for Miami. The RedHawks only lost one conference game and beat in-state rival Cincinnati. The defense returns some key pieces and sixth-year quarterback Brett Gabbert is back after missing most of the year with an injury. David Braun had a hell of a 2023 with everything he inherited. A stingy defense and balanced offense led the Wildcats to a 8 win season, including a bowl win over Utah but Northwestern is back in a rebuilding stage in 2024. The defense should be a strength once again but will need someone to step up at quarterback. The Wildcats will be on upset alert at their temporary field week 1 against the RedHawks.

Akron @ Ohio State (Saturday 08/31, 3:30 PM EST on CBS/Paramount+)

Ohio State is poised to make a run at a national championship and get back to the top of the sport. This game is really only on this list to see how some of the new faces in Columbus will mesh with the already stacked returning cast.

FIU @ Indiana (Saturday 08/31, 3:30 PM EST on BTN)

Tune in to check out the first game of the Curt Cignetti era. There will be a ton of new faces in Bloomington, some following Cignetti from James Madison. The main player I want to see is how former Ohio QB, Kurtis O’Rourke will be able to handle the Big Ten competition.

Boise State @ Georgia Southern (Saturday 08/31, 4:00 PM EST on ESPNU)

Boise State starts off a with a tough road test week 1 against Georgia Southern. With Andy Avalos not being retained it will be the first start of a season under Spencer Danielson. Danielson will have to work with incoming transfer Malachi Nelson at QB after Taylen Green landed at Arkansas. Georgia Southern has been a tough out against some major opponents under Clay Helton. Last year Wisconsin narrowly escaped the Eagles one year after Georgia Southern knocked off Nebraska in Lincoln. Paulson Stadium should be rocking and we’ll find out how Boise State handles the weather as it very well could be triple digit heat with high humidity.

North Texas @ South Alabama (Saturday 08/31, 5:00 PM EST on ESPN+)

North Texas had an inconsistent first season under Eric Morris in 2023, finishing 5-7. Despite a high powered offense that totaled over 30 points per game they weren’t able to pull off close games against UTSA, Memphis, or Navy. South Alabama will look to start the Major Applewhite era off right after Kane Wommack accepted the defensive coordinator job with Alabama. This is the best non P4 matchup to watch week 1.

UNLV @ Houston (Saturday 08/31, 7:00 PM EST on FS1)

A surprising 2023 for UNLV has the Runnin’ Rebels excited for the future and with Brennan Marion back to call the plays we will see te “Go-Go” offense on full display once again. Star WR Ricky White will be back but the major question looming is who will be the one to run the offense after Jayden Maiava transferred to USC? Dana Holgerson had one final down year with the Cougars as they entered Big 12 play and was not retained. Enter mastermind Willie Fritz back into his Houston roots and the team is looking to show they can get back to a double digit win program. This game is definitely entertaining to see where these programs stand after polar opposite 2023 seasons, if nothing else.

Notre Dame @ Texas A&M (Saturday 08/31, 7:30 PM EST on ABC)

The primetime matchup of week 1 is promising us all fireworks. Mike Elko starting his new tenure with a game in College Station against Notre Dame where he had previously coached, with Riley Leonard starting at quarterback who they were both on the same team at Duke. Notre Dame has a veteran defense back and is replacing some holes on the offensive line while A&M’s outlook to start the season is relatively at this moment outside of Connor Weigman has all the talent in the world and just has to prove it.

UCLA @ Hawaii (Saturday 08/31, 7:30 PM EST on CBS)

What a way for DeShaun Foster and UCLA to start off their Big 10 membership. Flying to Hawaii to play in the Rainbow Warrior’s temporary stadium that holds 15,000 fans. Even after a decent 2023 the only real Hawaii hope here is that the jet lag is too much for UCLA.

Wyoming @ Arizona State (Saturday 08/31, 10:30 PM EST on FS1)

There will be a lot of unkowns for both teams as they start the season. Jay Sawvel is starting his new job as head coach and Wyoming is always experienced, stingy defensively Cowboys shouldn’t be overlooked as Kenny Dillingham tries to get the Sun Devils on the right track in year two.

USC vs LSU (Sunday 09/01, 7:30 PM EST on ABC)

This is lining up to be an epic neutral-site matchup as the two teams unite in Las Vegas to start the year. After a disappointing 2023, LSU looks to start the season off hot with Garrett Nussmeier slinging the ball. No matter who is at the helm for USC, as long as Lincoln Riley is calling the offense you can expect the Trojans to have a high-octane offense.  Unfortunately for LSU and USC, the both defenses still have major questions. Fortunately for us, this most likely means a shootout in Allegiant Stadium.

BC @ FSU (Monday 09/02, 7:30 PM EST on ABC)

It’s free football time for us on Monday with a Labor Day faceoff in Tallahassee. BC will boast a veteran defense for Bill O’Brien as he moves back to the college ranks and while he doesn’t remember last year, BC will try to knock off FSU after a disappointing 29-31 loss while FSU will look for a first strong home outing as Doak Campbell will surely be rocking.

BYU @ SMU (Friday 09/06, 7:00 PM EST on ESPN2)

BYU and SMU are ready to throw down on Friday night. BYU will try to get things going behind Kedon Slovis once again but he’ll need some help from the ground game to get going as well as some receivers to make plays. SMU starts off with a hard matchup as they prepare for their first season in ACC play and luckily for them on the offensive side of the ball Preston Stone is back with a cast of weapons out wide that can score points early. Also the Mustangs will return a backfield that combined for over 1,500 yards on the ground last year. The defense was the real star from last year and more than half of the starters will be back for SMU.

Duke @ Northwestern (Friday 09/06, 9:00 PM EST on FS1)

We’ll catch the first glimpse of the Blue Devils under Manny Diaz and get a fascinating matchup here as well. The Duke defense lost a lot in the portal but I’m more excited to see what Maalik Murphy will be able to do in the offense. Northwestern won’t be an easy win and this could be another shootout by the lake in Evanston on Friday night.

Texas @ Michigan (Saturday 09/07, 12:00 PM EST on FOX)

Can’t wait for the week 2 heavyweight matchup as we get two playoff teams from last year playing in The Big House. Texas returns a seasoned team led by Quinn Ewers while the Wolverines return a strong defense and will rely on an unknown offense. How quick can the Michigan offense gel together and will the experienced Longhorns be able to handle a tough road environment?

Arkansas @ Oklahoma State (Saturday 09/07, 12:00 PM EST on ABC)

Arkansas will travel to T. Boone Pickens Stadium for a tough non-conference road test as these teams meet for the first time in over a decade. The Razorbacks have a lot of questions and Sam Pittman has hired good, ole’ Bobby Petrino to try and fix some of the offensive issues. A quarterback and running back transfer duo of Taylen Green from Boise State and Ja’Quinden Jackson from Utah should have the run game back into form but the big problem last year was turnovers. We already covered Oklahoma State but their success will largely come on if their defense can be effective against the run.

Georgia Tech @ Syracuse (Saturday 09/07, 12:00 PM EST on ACC Network)

The rebuild under Fran Brown at Syracuse has been very interesting and this will be our first chance to see how it’s coming along. The Orange have been making a total transformation and as Brown builds the defense back up he’ll lean on Kyle McCord to try and figure out the offense. We will see if the Syracuse defense can contain the Yellow Jacket’s rushing attack and just how quickly McCord can adjust to this new system.

Kansas State @ Tulane (Saturday 09/07, 12:00 PM EST)

You probably don’t remember but revenge has to be on Kansas State’s mind after Tulane came to Manhattan and walked out victors in 2022. Kansas State looks to establish a new identity with Avery Johnson and company while Tulane returns a strong core under first year coach Jon Sumrall. Tune in to see who comes out on top here.

Troy @ Memphis (Saturday 09/07, 12:00 PM EST)

The Memphis offense is very high-powered with Seth Henigan calling the shots and Troy will look to retool in many areas under former Notre Dame offensive coordinator, Gerod Parker. Parker will bring some new ideas but will mainly need to find consistency with this offense and lean on an always strong defense. The Memphis defense struggled at times so we could expect a high-scoring game even though the Troy defense is always good.

Pitt @ Cincinnati (Saturday 09/07, 12:00 PM EST on ESPN)

Both teams are looking to rebound after disappointing 2023 seasons and both teams need to win this game to prove that they’re back on track. Pitt will return Rodney Hammond so the running game should be good as usual while Cincinnati looked to the portal and added quarterback Brendan Sorsby after he showed a lot of promise at Indiana. This week the Bearcats took a big loss with Dontay Corleone out indefinitely with a medical condition and the home-field gives Pitt the slight edge however this game should still be very close.

Cal @ Auburn (Saturday 09/07, 3:30 PM EST on ESPN2)

Cal enters the year with a new conference and one of the best running backs in the nation in Jaydn Ott. Auburn has been integrating it’s new schemes and adding talent everywhere they can in Hugh Freeze’s short tenure so we will find out early if it’s all starting to click. This is a baptism-by-fire road test for the Golden Bears and Auburn should be able to pull it out in Jordan Hare.

South Carolina @ Kentucky (Saturday 09/07, 3:30 PM EST on ABC)

An early-season SEC showdown will mark as a critical matchup between South Carolina and Kentucky as they look to position themselves as median SEC programs. Uncertainty fills the Gamecocks following the departure of Spencer Rattler but the defense will return a strong, experienced core. Kentucky has some questions of their own at as a pair of UGA transfers will quarterback the team on both sides of the ball. Brock Vandagriff and Jamon Dumas-Johnson will look to establish a Dawgs identity in Lexington this upcoming year.  The outcome of this game could very possibly hinge on turnovers, defensive performance, and who can execute coming down the stretch.

Michigan State @ Maryland (Saturday 09/07, 3:30 PM EST on BTN)

With both teams starting a new adventure at quarterback it will be exciting to see how Aidan Chiles handles his first road test in College Park. On the other side, it will be interesting to see how NC State transfer MJ Morris will be able to fill the void of Taulia Tagovailoa. Both teams will rely on their new, inexperienced quarterbacks so who will handle the pressure here?

Iowa State @ Iowa (Saturday 09/07, 3:30 PM EST on CBS)

The 2024 edition of El Assico promises another classic, low-scoring battle between these two in-state rivals. Both teams bring experienced rosters and expectations to be near the top of their respected conferences. The Hawkeyes should have a strong run game and stout defense as Iowa usually does while the Cyclones bring a veteran defense to the table and have more of a chance for a explosive offense behind Rocco Becht.

Baylor @ Utah (Saturday 09/07, 3:30 PM EST on FOX)

Expectations couldn’t be more different for this Big 12 matchup in Salt Lake City. Utah is the conference favorite in the new Big 12 returning 14 starters, plus Cam Rising finally coming back. Baylor had a brutal 2023 but with new offensive coordinator Jake Spavital and Toledo transfer QB DeQuan Finn, the Bears hope to spark the offense in 2024.

UTSA @ Texas State (Saturday 09/07, 4:00 PM EST on ESPNU)

The early season Battle for I-35 features two programs coming off strong 2023 seasons. Both teams should be considered among the best teams from the group of five. While UTSA looks to replace program legend Frank Harris at QB, Texas State has added Jordan McCloud from JMU to keep momentum going.

Marshall @ Virginia Tech (Saturday 09/07, 4:30 PM EST on The CW)

Marshall pulled off a 24-17 nailbiter in Huntington last year against the Hokies and Virginia Tech will be looking to avenge that loss. Virginia Tech is returning the most production in college football and behind Kyron Drones will be emphasizing a run-heavy offense. Coach Charles Huff on the other side, will be featuring of 30 additions to the team and will have to overcome the loss of 1,000 yard rusher Rasheen Ali.

South Florida @ Alabama (Saturday 09/07, 7:00 PM EST on ESPN)

Our first real look at the new Kalen DeBoer led Alabama Crimson Tide will feature a rematch of a sloppy game in Tampa. Questions remain on offense for Alabama but the defense should still be a major force for opponents. South Florida will return Byrum Brown at quarterback who totaled over 4,000 yards last year with 37 touchdowns. This is likely a win for Alabama, but who knows if the South Florida offense is clicking on all cylinders.

UVA @ Wake Forest (Saturday 09/07, 7:00 PM EST on ESPN2)

Tony Scott and Virginia are looking to improve on last year’s record but questions still surround the offensive side of the ball. The defense will likely still be above average and will be the key considering Wake Forest’s history on offense. Wake Forest is returning a good amount of production on offense but the defense will still have major question marks. An exciting ACC opener makes this a tune-in kind of game.

Kansas @ Illinois (Saturday 09/07, 7:00 PM EST on ESPN)

After Illinois had to march into a hostile Lawrence last year we see the Jayhawks having to return the favor early in 2024. This is a big one for both teams with Kansas fresh off a surprising season and Illinois hungry to make a statement win. Will the Kansas defense be able to stop the Illinois rushing attack and how will Jalon Daniels explosiveness look after missing most of 2023?

Tennessee vs NC State in Charlotte (Saturday 09/07, 7:30 PM EST on ABC)

A highly anticipated neutral-season test where both teams are looking to build off of strong 2023 seasons. Tennessee looks to see how Nico Iamaleava will perform in Josh Heupel’s high powered offense while NC State will start Grayson McCall after he transferred from Coastal Carolina. Both offenses strive on balance and while the NC State defense has been beyond consistent over the years we will see if Tennessee can improve, particularly in the secondary. Not much of a home field advantage in Charlotte for NC State so don’t look for that to be the X-factor.

Colorado @ Nebraska (Saturday 09/07, 7:30 PM EST on NBC)

Nebraska will look for revenge after a narrow 2023 loss in Boulder. This game holds significant weight for both teams as both are looking to propel towards bowl eligibility as Nebraska hasn’t been to a bowl game since 2016 and Colorado since 2020. While Colorado should have a more consistent offense due to some key transfers to their already proven stars, Nebraska will look to show off highly-touted true freshman Dylan Raiola to show they’re back in the mix as a competent football program. The Cornhuskers defense was consistent last year and home field should play a big role here.

Houston @ Oklahoma (Saturday 09/07, 7:45 PM EST on SEC Network)

This game looks like a major mismatch on paper with Houston rebuilding under Willie Fritz and Oklahoma continuing to boast a high-powered offense. Will the Cougar’s defense be able to slow down Jackson Arnold and the Sooner’s offense at all or is this just a baptism-by-fire situation?

App State @ Clemson (Saturday 09/07, 8:00 PM EST on ACC Network)

This is the classic David vs. Goliath matchup and while Clemson is going to be heavily favored, we all know App State has the potential to pull off the big surprise. Expect a close game but Clemson’s talent may eventually be too much for the Mountaineers.

Boise State @ Oregon (Saturday 09/07, 10:00 PM EST on Peacock)

Boise State is fresh off a Mountain West Championship and still returns a ton on defense while in 2024 it is truly playoff or bust for Dan Lanning and the Ducks. A faceoff of Malachi Nelson and Dillon Gabriel should tell us everything we need to know about the transfer quarterbacks in this matchup. The Oregon defense should be very strong this year and even though Will Stein lost some program leaders like Troy Franklin, the Ducks got some really nice pieces like Evan Stewart in in the transfer portal. Autzen and the Duck’s offense will probably be too much for the Broncos as this upset would be a major story.

Texas Tech @ Washington State (Saturday 09/07, 10:00 PM EST on FOX)

A perfect after dark matchup here as we will host an air raid vs. air raid matchup between the Texas Tech Red Raiders and the Washington State Cougars. After a disappointing 2023, Texas Tech is looking to translate this year’s talent into more wins with a strong secondary and strong front. Unfortunately, after all the conference realignment we will see what Washington State will look like in a post Pac-12 world. The Cougar’s leadership with Jake Dickert is still strong so maybe they can pull off the upset in Pullman.

Liberty @ New Mexico State (Saturday 09/07, 10:15 PM EST on ESPN2)

We’re blessed with rematch of the 2023 Conference USA Championship game in week 2. New Mexico State was in the best position they’ve ever been in under Jerry Kill, but with Kill retiring at the end of 2023 and Diego Pavia, after being named CUSA Offensive Player of The Year taking his talents to the SEC with Vanderbilt, there are tons of questions for the Aggies. Look for Liberty to be strong again as they maintain a dominant rushing attack with Kaidon Salter, Quinton Cooley, and Billy Lucas. Coach Jamey Chadwell’s offensive system is effective and we’ve seen it work a ton, especially when they’ve got more talent than 99% of the teams they play. Liberty is clearly the better and more experienced team but the +3,500 elevation in Las Cruces could give them some trouble.

Mississippi State @ Arizona State (Saturday 09/07, 10:30 PM EST on ESPN2)

This will be our first real look at the Mississippi State Bulldogs under new head coach Jeff Lebby. Mississippi State brought in plenty of NFL talent over the years but with no divisions in the SEC we will see how Lebby’s offense works in Starkville. Program leader Will Rogers is out at Washington and the offensive line is completely rebuilt, so the Bulldogs will rely almost completely on transfers in 2024 with former Baylor QB Blake Shapen leading the motley crew. The defense wasn’t all that bad but the problem is they’ve lost two starters at linebacker that started for over four years a piece. Arizona State might not do the most with less but they typically do fine with what they have and Kenny Dillingham has always been able to do just that no matter where he was coaching. With Marcus Arroyo joining the staff after being relieved as head coach at Nevada, the Sun Devils should see some added consistency on offense. Jaden Rashada left and that sucks but Arizona State added a good transfer in Sam Leavitt, who looked good in limited playing time at Michigan State. The receivers got hit hard by the portal but with Cam Skattebo doing it all at running back the offense should be pretty steady. The defense definitely needs to generate more pressure to keep the team in the game late. Don’t miss a fun after dark matchup between two teams that are trying to get up to speed.

Oregon State @ San Diego State (Saturday 09/07, 10:30 PM EST on CBS Sports Network)

Oregon State will start off the their new post Pac-12 and Jonathan Smith lives with a tough road test in Snapdragon Stadium. The Beavers are coming off a 8-win season but new coach Trent Bray has his work cut out for him after losing his quarterback of the future, the entire receiver room, Damien Martinez, almost the entire offensive line, and everything on the defensive line. Linebacker and the DB room still remain strong so there are some beacons of shining light. After a failed project in Boulder, Sean Lewis was tapped to head to San Diego and become the next head coach for the Aztecs. San Diego State is looking at some different options to start at quarterback but should have a consistent run game behind Marquez Cooper. Defense has never been Lewis’ strong suit but he’s inheriting a good group up front with the secondary needing some reworking. This should be a close matchup and Oregon State should be on upset alert despite still having more talent with everything that’s transpired over the last year.
